I recently participated in the Klagenfurt Game Jam – 2nd Tech Edition, where our team developed Scrapped in just a few intense days, submitting it only minutes before the deadline.

What made this experience particularly challenging was that most of our team had never built a complete game before. The majority of us come from a programming background, so stepping into game design, art direction, audio production, and rapid gameplay iteration pushed us well outside our comfort zones.
We built the game using Godot, which was both challenging and genuinely fun. Working under time pressure forced us to prototype quickly, discard weak ideas without hesitation, and continuously refine mechanics until they felt cohesive.
Despite the steep learning curve, the collaboration worked surprisingly well. Each member brought something essential to the table:
- Sfarfabrilla – Created most of the game’s art and defined its visual identity.
- mrBymax – Provided valuable hackathon expertise, helping the team stay structured and focused.
- gianzav – Composed the music and recorded the voiceover, giving the game personality and atmosphere.
- HighNoon00 – Delivered fast programming and rapid prototyping that allowed us to iterate efficiently.
Out of 22 entries, Scrapped placed in the top 10 overall, with particularly strong feedback on game design and aesthetics.
Beyond the ranking, the real achievement was turning an idea into a fully playable experience under strict time constraints, learning new skills on the fly and functioning as a cohesive team despite limited prior game development experience.

Finally, a sincere thank you to the organizers of the Klagenfurt Game Jam for putting together such a well-structured and inspiring event. The atmosphere, support, and overall coordination made the entire experience both intense and rewarding. Initiatives like this play a crucial role in fostering creativity, collaboration, and hands-on learning within the developer community.
